हिमाल जस्तो उच्च विशाल वक्ष भयो भने
इमान्दार राष्ट्रवादी पक्ष-विपक्ष भयो भने
विकासमा वास्तुको अडचन नहोला साथी
चट्टान समान मजवूत लक्ष भयो भने।
With a chest as high and tall as the Himalayas
With an honest nationalist in the government and opposition
Vastu1 won’t likely be the hindrance to development, my friend
if there is a strong, rock solid goal.

कहिले छिन छिन गर्ने चुरी लिएर आउँछ
कहिले तिरिरी बज्ने बाँसुरी लिएर आउँछ
तिमीलाई स्पर्श गर्ने पवनले साथैमा प्रिय,
मनै प्रसन्न पार्ने मिठो माधुरी लिएर आउँछ।
Sometimes it comes with the bangles chiming
Sometimes with the melodious sound of the flute
Breeze that caressed you, my dear,
brings along the sweetness to fill my heart with happiness.

साक्षात ऐश्वर्य गुणकी अवतरित लिला हौ
मेरो कल्पना लोककी अवर्णनीय सुशीला हौ
कस्ले भन्छ तिमीलाई रक्तहीन पत्थर हौ भनेर?
तिमीत मेरो मन भित्र बहने अन्त-सलिला हौ।
A vivid personification of the divine being descending upon
A beyond-explanation genteel being of my dreamland
Who dare say you are a bloodless granite?
You are the ambrosia flowing ceaselessly through my heart.

आफ्ना अतीतको विजय गाथा पढ्दैछु
छातिमा देश राखेर अगाडि बढ्दैछु
कलमको इमन्दार सिपाही पो हुँ म-
कागजमा तरबार बनाएर लड्दैछु।
Reading the glories of our victorious past
I am marching forward with the country in my heart
Being an honest soldier of a pen, I am
fighting with a sword on the papers after all.

देव स्थलमा पुगे पछि नक्कली जटा पाल्ने
प्रीति भोजमा सामेल हुँदा दाह्रीजुँगा फाल्ने
यो त औसरवादी प्राणीको नियति हो साथी
चिप्लिएर नदीमा खस्यो भने नुहाई हाल्ने।
Donning fake drealocks upon reaching holy site
Shaving clean when going to a wedding banquet
That’s the hallmark of an opportunist, my friend
Bathing upon slipping into the rivulet.

समयनुसार सहज रुपमा वहन सके
सदाकाल आत्मविश्वासका साथ रहन सके
कति सार्थक हुनेथ्यो यो क्षणभङ्गुर जीवन-
कठिन अवस्था पनि हाँसी हाँसी सहन सके।
Flowing effortlessly if one could with time
Forever remain with self confidence
How meaningful would this short life be
If only we could endure the difficulties with smile.

न उसलाई लाज छ,न सरम छ
न आन्तरिक ताकत छ,न दम छ
व्यर्थै अरुलाई होच्याएर बोल्छ उ
जस्को आफ्नै आत्मविश्वास कम छ।
Neither shame he has nor the disgrace does he feel
Neither internal strength nor the courage
He just degrades others for no reason
For lacking self-confidence of his own.

सत्य सोचलाई मित्रताको डोरीले तान्छ भन्छन्
हरदिन हररात प्रगति हुँदै जान्छ भन्छन्
जसले अरुको डाह गर्छ उस्लाई भने हजुर
आफ्नै मनभित्र जलेको आगोले खान्छ भन्छन्।
Ropes of friendship is said to draw the thoughts of truths
Progressing every day and night, so is said
Whereas those who are jealous of others, gentleman,
Are burnt by the fire raging inside their heart.

जो अन्तर्मनमा थियो उसले छोडेर गएपछि
आफ्नो भागमा केवल संझना बाँकी रहेपछि
जलेको दिल आँखाको पानीलेमात्र निभाउँछ
दाइहालेको पराल समान मन भएपछि।
Whatever was inside the heart upon his leaving
With just the memories remaining for me.
Only the water from the eyes can extinguish the burning heart
When it is akin to straw trampled by the oxen.

साधुहरु तस्करीको डिक्की बनेका छन
सज्जनहरु वाग्लेको ढिकी बनेका छन
कसरी जिउलान बुद्धिजीवीहरु तत्र हजुर?
जहाँ डाँकुहरु सबै वाल्मीकि बनेका छन।
Sadhus have turned into trunks for smugglers
Gentlemen into a tool for the haves.
How are the intellectuals going to survive my dear?
Where all the dacoits have become the sages.

प्रसाद भनेर अभक्ष वस्तु खाँदै खाइँदैन
कागजको फूलमा अत्तर छरेर लाइदैन
मन्दिरभित्र जाँदा मनै झुकाउनु पर्छ मित्र
मात्र शिर झुकाउँदैमा वरदान पाइदैन।
Unedible item isn’t eaten just because its an offering to god
Nor will the paper flower sprinkled with perfume is worn
Need to actually open the heart upon entering the temple, my friend
No blessing is received by merely bowing the head.

मित्रता र सहिष्णुताको डोरी चुडाउने
अब यस्तो हरकत छोड्नु पर्यो हजुर

Running a dozer over people’s rights
Cutting the thread of friendship and forgiveness
You need to stop such acts, O gentleman
That makes a mockery of dignity and morals.

चारु चन्द्रको शीतल आभा घसेकी जस्ती
देवलोकबाट कतै झुक्किएर खसेकी जस्ती
चौपट्टै सुशील देखिएकी छौ तिमी त प्रिय
झरनासंगै झरी सुटुक्क एक्लै बसेकी जस्तै।
As if smeared with the cool glow of the full moon
As if to have fallen somewhere from the heaven by error
O my dear, you appear extremely genteel
As if sitting silently alone with the flowing waterfall.

यी सवै एउटै कित्ताकै हुन्
आफ्नो तीन हात बित्ताकै हुन्
के बाँकी छ र व्यर्थै झगडा?
साझा ढुकुटी त रित्याकै हुन्।
Cut of the same cloth they are all
With own three bits and pieces
What is left there to fight?
Shared wealth had been wasted after all.

Letters of repentance are inscribed

चालबाजी राजनीतिमा एक खेल हो
सत्य र निष्ठालाई पन्छाउनु झेल हो
त्याग र तपस्याले निर्मित हरितगृह
लथालिङ्ग भएर खस्नु अनमेल हो।
Conspiracy is a game in politics
That keeps aside the truth and values
When the green house of sacrifice and hard work falls down
Nothing but disorder prevails.

म अमिन हुँदो हुँ त तिम्रो माया नाप्ने थिएँ
जे दिन्थ्यौ तिमीले मेरा दुवैहात थाप्ने थिएँ
साच्चैन तिमी मेरो साख्खै भैदिने भएत प्रिय!
समाधिमा बसेर तिम्रै नाममात्र जप्ने थएँ।

शरीरमा दाग छ भन्दैमा कोही लखेटिदैन
कपडाको दाग त धोएर जान सक्छ मित्र!
चरित्रको दाग भने जिन्दगी भर मेटिदैन।
An immaculate person is rare, may never to be found
Bodily stains though are not the subject of a hound
Stains in a fabric can be washed out, my dear friend
Character stains remain lifelong and can’t be unwound

न यो तक्मा जस्तो छातीमा लाउने कुरा हो
न यो उपाधि स्वरुप दिएर पाउने कुरा हो
यो त प्राकृत गुण हो सित्तैमा बन्दैन साथी!
सज्जनता त अन्तर मनबाट आउने कुरा हो।
It’s not a medal that you can wear on your chest
Neither is an accolade conferred on you for being the best
It’s the gift of nature and not a freebie, my dear friend
Decency comes from within the heart and keeps you modest

छोडुवा साँडेलाई जुवामा दाउनै सकिन्न
मान्छे पनि त्यस्तै न हो तह लाउनै सकिन्न
भीडमा हराएको मान्छे त खोजे पत्ता लाग्छ
विचारमा हराएकोलाई पाउनै सकिन्न।
Untamed bulls are difficult to yoke or bind
No wonder you cannot contain the humankind
You may find someone who is lost in the crowd
Impossible to find a person once he has lost his mind

वसन्तले नयाँ पालुवा लिएको हुनसक्छ
बेजोड ऑधीले खसालिदिएको हुनसक्छ
झरेको पात भन्दैमा कुल्चेर नहिॅड साथी
डालीमा छॅदा शितल छहारी दिएको हुनसक्छ।
May have paved the way for new shoots to form
Or could have dropped down during a violent storm
Do not just trample on the fallen leaves my friend
May have provided shade during scorching warm

कतिलाई देश परदेश भ्रमणकै माचो छ
कतिसंग विपुल असीमित दौलतको फाँचो छ
समानताको मौलिक अर्थ हराउँदै छ,यहाँ, अव
अनेक चेतनात्मक रुपान्तरणको खाँचो छ।
Some are dreaming traveling abroad
Others are thinking a lot of wealth to hoard
Equality is losing its original meaning now
Transformation is needed across the board

मानव जीवनमा गुरुबाट दिइने ज्ञान दीक्षा हो
परशुले पाप मुक्तिको बाटो खोज्नु प्रतीक्षा हो
मागेर पाइने चिज त केवल भिख मात्र हो साथी
दिँदा पनि आफैँ संग रहने वस्तुको नाम शिक्षा हो।
Teachers give knowledge for human initiation
Animals just keep waiting for the salvation
If you just ask and get it, it’s alms my friend
Expending education instead is a retention

भगवानले हात्ती बनाए,उसलाई खेल्न झील बनाए
सुन्दर पंछी डाँफे बनाए,मयूर बनाए ,चील बनाए
पहाड बनाए, वेशी बनाए ,सोचे सारा संसार बनाए
मेरो मात्रै होसै नगरी साह्रै कमजोर दिल बनाए।
God created the elephant, and made a lake to play
Created lophophorus, peacocks and the birds of pray
Built mountains, valleys and thoughtfully whole world
But without thinking made me with weak heart like clay

वसुधैव कुटुम्बकम उद्घोषण भएको छ
निर्धा निमुखा जनताको शोषण भएको छ
जुन देशको सरकारमा भावशून्य रहन्छ-
त्यहाँ आफन्तको मात्र वित्तपोषण भएको छ।
The world is brethren only in declaration
The weak and helpless just face exploitation
If the country’s rulers are without empathy
Only their relatives get financial elevation
